Company History
- 2007 FHI, Inc. reorganizes to include Omni Fitness Equipment with its sister company: Busy Body Home Fitness, making FHI, Inc. the largest specialty fitness retailer in the United States with over 100 stores located in the Northeastern and Western United States.
- 2004 - 2006 The 44 East Coast Omni Fitness Equipment stores are acquired by Hancock Park Associates, a Los Angeles based private equity firm, which also owns Fitness Holdings International, Inc (FHI, Inc.) operating as Busy Body Home Fitness and LA Gym Equipment.
- 2003 OMNI Fitness Equipment sells the West Coast stores to Busy Body Home Fitness, thus allowing the Company to focus solely on its core regional store portfolio in the Northeast corridor. Thereupon, OMNI Fitness Equipment opens 5 new stores within the New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania region. In addition, the Corporate Headquarters has been relocated from Stamford, CT to Moonachie, NJ, inhabiting a 48,000 square foot office and distribution center.
- 2001 Brunswick Corporation acquires OMNI Fitness Equipment in February. In September, OMNI Fitness and its customers and suppliers celebrate a 20th Anniversary of superior fitness results!
- 2000 OMNI Fitness acquires EEC Fitness Superstores' 17 West Coast locations between San Jose and Anchorage to become the nation's largest distributor of performance exercise equipment.
- 1998 Through the acquisition of Fitness Depot, OMNI continues to expand in the metro New York market. Additional stores open in Bedford, NY, Harrisburg, PA and Bellingham, MA.
- 1997 In a unique arrangement with Life Fitness, OMNI opens in New York City. This concept store serves as a retail location for OMNI and a global showroom for Life Fitness. Omni acquires fitness retailers Corefit and Fitness Concepts, becoming the largest fitness dealer in the metro Philadelphia market. OMNI expands its presence in New York with the acquisition of Body Wise.
- 1996 OMNI acquires Fitness Source and reopens Fitness Source stores in Horsham, PA and Princeton, NJ under the OMNI Fitness name. The Commercial Division extends coverage to Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
- 1995 OMNI Fitness' current management acquires all outstanding shares of the company. The operations of RPM Associates are acquired by OMNI, effectively doubling the size of the Commercial Division.
- 1993 The Commercial Division broadens its coverage to Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine, and Vermont. OMNI acquires All For Fitness and its sister company, Fitness Equipment Depot.
- 1990 All For Fitness (subsequently acquired by OMNI) opens the first of three stores on Long Island. OMNI opens a store in Stamford, CT - it's third in the state.
- 1986 OMNI enters the commercial market by establishing a separate division for the sale of commercial products.
- 1985 OMNI opens its first store in Norwalk, CT and is quickly recognized as a leader in the home fitness industry.
- 1981 The first "OMNI Fitness" stores open on opposite coasts: exercise Equipment Centers opens the Westlake store in downtown Seattle, and Natural Fitness opens in Rockaway, NJ. After years of successful service in their respective communities, Natural Fitness is acquired by OMNI fitness in 1999 and EEC joins the OMNI fitness family of community fitness equipment stores in 2000.
